Mary Epp

Mary Epp, aged 70, passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2018, at the Herbert Integrated Facility. Mary was born on October 5th, 1947 in the Gouldtown area, the fourth child of Abe & Suzanna Friesen. Her siblings were Ben (Mary), Elizabeth (Ben Dueck), Eva, Harry (Robin), Norma (Arnold Wiebe) and Barry (Bonnie) who is a nephew but was more like a brother to Mary. As a child she lived in Gouldtown and attended elementary school there. She then attended high school in Herbert. After leaving high school, Mary attended Bible School in Steinbach, MB. She later worked at the Western Tract Mission in Saskatoon, SK.

In 1975, Mary married Edmund John Epp in Saskatoon and they were married for 34 years before Edmund passed away in 2010. Throughout their marriage they lived in small town Saskatchewan. Mary & Edmund raised two sons, Lowell (Kristin) and Lyndon (Candace), who were loved very much; and a proud grandma to 5 grandchildren, Kianna (14), Spencer (12), Gaige (11), Blake (9) and Bo (4). She adored her grandchildren and talked about them to anyone who would listen.

Mary’s faith was very important to her over the years. In her younger days, Mary even memorized a verse for each letter of the alphabet so that she could keep her scripture close to her heart. Even during her last several days in the hospital, she had her bible with her and would continue to do her devotions every morning and pray for her loved ones. Having guests was a highlight for Mary, and she always had baking available in the freezer for unexpected guests…if her sons hadn’t already eaten it all without her knowledge. She was also known for her homemade buns and was often asked to bring some to special events.

Mary will be missed by all those who loved her. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Edmund; her parents, Abe & Suzanna Friesen; her sisters, Elizabeth and Eva; her parents-in-law, John & Helena Epp; a brother-in-law, Jim Rempel; and by her nephews, Darren Friesen and Jeff Rempel.

The Funeral Service for Mary Epp was held on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 2:00 pm from Living Faith Fellowship Church, Herbert, SK with Donovan Epp officiating. “Old Rugged Cross,” “The River,” and “I’ll Fly Away” were sung by the congregation, with Ruth Newton serving as pianist. Special music was brought by Norma Wiebe and Barry Dueck. Tributes were shared by Mary’s family. The ushers in the church were Henry Zacharias and Ron Schultz. The Interment Service was held Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 1:00 pm from the Waldheim Cemetery, Waldheim, SK with Alvin Epp, Phil Epp, Carl Epp, Michael Wiebe, and Jonathan White serving as Pallbearers.
